Dance Class

A contemporary dance class including warm-up and limbering, technical and creative exercises, dance sequences, cool down and stretches. We'll explore weight, space and movement quality and dynamics within spirals, contractions and extensions of the body.  Open level, suitable for beginners or those with some dance training.

I started dancing as a way of rehabilitating after a riding accident that fractured my spine.  I loved my first ballet class and I could tell that the strong, held movements would help me rebuild my strength whilst keeping my spine aligned.  I was lucky enough to train with Fiona Chaney and Dennie Wilson at Dancebase where I discovered contemporary dance. I studied choreography and then took the Arts Council 'Dance Leaders in the Community' diploma, specialising in contemporary dance, later training in physical theatre with Philippe GauIier and at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School before embarking on a career as a professional actress, singer and dancer.

I taught dance at St Albans School and was head of movement for the University of London's postgraduate opera course.  I have choreographed and danced in many operas, musicals and physical theatre productions including the Royal Opera House, 'The Canterbury Tales (West End) and with Paul Rous at The Place.

I am also a qualified yoga teacher and recently trained as a DDMIX (Diverse Dance Mix) instructor, teaching fun routines based around a variety of different dance genres. My main influences are Cunningham and release based contemporary techniques, Gaga dance and yoga, mixed up with a splash of street jazz and ballet!

I look forward to dancing with you!
